The issues facing adjunct faculty — lack of job security, low pay, and declining standards in the higher educational system — are something we’ve all experienced.
In cities across the country, we’ve organized unions, winning victories at Georgetown, Tufts, George Washington, and many other universities. Forming unions is an excellent way to fight for change, but may not be an immediate option for all of us.
Now we have another way to advocate for ourselves as adjuncts. Adjunct Action has created an associate member program that will connect adjuncts across the country, and serve as a forum for us to launch Adjunct Action as a national movement.
The associate member program will allow us to lead a grassroots effort that will bring together adjuncts, students, parents, and allies to fight for good jobs for contingent faculty and improved educational outcomes for our students. Through discussion, trainings, and action, we’ll work to raise the declining standards that have left us, as teachers and scholars, on the margins of the university system.
