Faculty Sanctions for Teaching

In the Fall 2014 term two Department Chairs assigned class ( 5 in total ) to me for the Fall 2014 term.
When the Vice Chancellor was informed I was assigned more than three sections in the Fall 2014 term he directed the new Department Chair to not assign me any sections for the Spring 2015 term.

Since when did avoiding the rule and regulations for the ACA become more important than teaching college students?

It is happening at my school also. Wouldn’t know if I had not been told by someone who broke ranks to warn me.
If you check job searches, there was a massive search and hiring for fall 2014. Large numbers of adjuncts hired to take up other adjunct ‘ s classes in order to dodge ACA.
Sociologist was hired to teach environmental science. She admitted to knowing zero about the topic.
Let me add that I do not blame this hard-working woman for taking the job. Administration is the adversary not other adjuncts.

Hi-
These comments address an issue that was only touched on in the webinar-that is, the ACA requires employers who do not provide health coverage or provide coverage that does not meet cost and quality requirements to pay a penalty. The requirement only pertains to full time workers, and “full-time” is defined as 30 hours per week. Schools can calculate adjunct hours by multiplying credit hours by 2.25 and then adding an hour for every hour spent outside class on specific activities like office hours.
Unfortunately, this we have heard that some employers are cutting hours to avoid paying the penalty. We are hoping to change this-it’s troubling that colleges and universities would behave like Walmart.

Glen, in the beginning of your program, you mentioned that books like Huckleberry Finn would not be included in Common Core. That is just not true. There are many books that are recommended by the Common Core website. I just visited there and Tom Sawyer is one of them. There are many other great works of literature that are encouraged by Common Core. I don’t agree with everything in the Common Core, but the works of literature that are recommended by the standard in Common Core are very good ones. I am a teacher and it is great to see the scope of great literature that they encourage us to teach our students. Go to the website for Common Core and you can find this information for yourself.

Frankly, I think Glen Beck has lost what little mind he had left. He is a certifiable nut case and he is leading other nut jobs. Why do people have to find a “hidden message” in music? Why believe a song writer has a “hidden agenda” when he pens a song? Come on, now, American Pie was a good song for it’s time period and that’s all it was or is. A good song.
